The Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero (TIE) is an identity card for non-EU citizens who are legally resident in Spain. EU citizens have to get the Certificado de registro de ciudadano de la Unión.

How to get an appointment?

At first select Las Palmas and select TRÁMITES POLICÍA NACIONAL.
At the dorpdown menu select the entry POLCIA - RECOGIDA DE TARJETA DE IDENTIDAD DE EXTRANJERO (TIE) and start the process.

Pro-Tip 1: Check every morning between 8:00 am and 9:00 am to find free appointments.

Pro-Tip 2: All appointments go more smoothly if you can speak Spanish. If you're not fluent, consider asking a friend who speaks Spanish to accompany you.

How to pay Tasa?

The Tasa is the money you have to pay for the process.

You have to fill the Model 790 - Codigo 012 and pay it.

If you have a Spanish bank account you can go to your cashier there for paying the Tasa or use the ATM.

Requirements

  • You must have a residence Permit for Spain (see above) that is valid for more than six months.
  • The application must be made in person at the police station or foreigner's office where you reside.
  • If the applicant is a minor, they must be accompanied and accredited by a legal guardian.
Required Documents
  • Printouts about your social security status
  • Form EX-17
  • Modelo 790
  • Passport
  • Current passport-style photo
  • White NIE
  • Proof of employment status or autónomo documents
  • Registro Central de Penados/ Crime Record (sometimes required)
  • Empadronamiento
  • For Autónomos
    • Modelo 130
    • Modelo 130 is distributed for each quarter of the tax year, and is needed to prove you pay tax in Spain.
  • For Spanish contracts
    • In Las Palmas they prefer the SEPE version. Our post on Public Health Care / Social Security / SEPE explains how to download it using your digital certificate
    • Hint: If you start working on the first of the month, your company has 10 days to upload everything to SEPE. If your appointment is between the 1st and the 10th of the month, you should bring the standard contract. A contract signed with a digital certificate is also acceptable as an alternative to a "normal" signature.
Permit for Spain

A permit for spain means a you need a VISA. Some of them you need before entering as tourist, some are possible to get after entering Spain with a Tourist VISA.

Can be applied for after entering Spain with a tourist visa:

  • Student Visa: Visado de Estudios
  • Highly Skilled Worker Visa: Visado para trabajador altamente cualificado y para traslado intraempresarial
  • EU Citizen Family Member Visa: Visados de familiares de ciudadanos UE y de beneficiarios Acuerdo de Retirada UE-Reino Unido
  • Entrepreneur Visa: Visado para emprendedor
  • Golden Visa: Visado de inversor
  • Digital Nomad Visa: Visado de residencia para teletrabajo (nómada digital).

Must be applied for before entering Spain:

  • Regular Work Visa: Visado de trabajo por cuenta ajena
  • Non-Lucrative Visa (Non-Working): Visado de residencia no lucrativa
  • Freelance Visa: Visado de trabajo por cuenta propia

Registro Central de Penados/ Crime Record

In certain situations, you may need to provide a police clearance certificate known as "Registro Central de Penados".

Obtaining this is straightforward: Click here to make an appointment 

  • Complete the Modelo 790 (ensure section 17 on the form is filled out)
  • Pay for the Modelo 790 at a bank branch or ATM.
  • Attend your appointment and present both the completed form and the receipt of payment.
  • Watach this for more Location and contact details.
  • The certificate will be sent via email or postal service, depending on your preference.
  • Duration varies based on your home country (ranging from 7 to 70 days).
  • Cost approximately 4 euros.
